Jemma Hendricks is a producer, editor, and actor based between Los Angeles, Melbourne and Vancouver.

Her grandparent’s heavily protested against Apartheid rule in their home town of Port Elizabeth, South Africa in the 1960’s. Their advocacy inspires the drive in Jemma’s story telling, which often explores LGBTQIA+ rights, refugee policy, and race based issues. She proudly provides a queer, femme lens in an industry where that is not often represented or championed.

 

Most recent projects include producing and acting the film 'Nullivore' written and directed by Imran Zaidi, as well as producing The Open Up Podcast hosted by Elliot Knight. Jemma edits marketing content for major brands such as Subaru, Comfii, and Platypus Shoes.

 

Jemma co-directed What is Love? (2017), a 13 part documentary series exploring diverse genders and sexualities in Australia, alongside creative partner Mia Zen and promoted by SBS Australia.

 

Jemma’s acting credits include - Theatre: Parade, Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland, Dark Lake. Film: Lola, We’re Here Now (Palm Springs Film Festival, Down Under Berlin), Genau Das Will Ich Sehen (Sydney World Film Festival). She is presently represented by RED Management (Vancouver), Ian White Management (Melbourne), and Gorgeous Media Group (Los Angeles).

 

Jemma has a certification in Entertainment Studies from UCLA (2020) and completed SHOWFIT Musical Theatre program under the direction of Simon Gleeson, Mathew Frank, and Scott Johnson (2013-2014).

 

She really loves birds.

Mia Zen is a videographer and editor based in Melbourne. She enjoys all facets of video and image creation and is capable of directing, sound recording, making motion graphics and producing camera-based animation. She is currently working at the Victorian State Government Department of Fairness, Families and Housing as a Video Advisor. She spent over 4 years working at the Seven Network as part of the News Editing team in the Docklands.

 

Mia was Jemma’s co-director in making the documentary web series What is Love? She also has experience in creating drama and non-fiction short films, event video and photography, as well as promotional social media videos. To check out some of her work, head to www.miazen.com

 

Mia completed a Bachelor of Communication (Media) at RMIT University in 2016.

"As an industry leader, we pledge to create an anti racist, decolonised Australian theatre industry and establish an inclusive and safe environment for all.
We Pledge to:
• Acknowledge in-built systemic racism and educate ourselves in our complicity
• Hire cultural consultants/advisors and intimacy coordinators who have the necessary knowledge in experience to create safe spaces and not allow cast driven emotional labour
• Consult The Equity Diversity Committee and enforce safe practices for all diverse creatives
• Commit to a minimum of 25% Bla(c)k, Indigenous, People of Colour, gender diverse, disabled and body diverse artists working in our companies and on our projects
• Commit to working towards a minimum 25% of annually programmed work that is created and led by BIPOC artists
• Stop programming works that feature racially insensitive characters and depictions
• Apply this pledge to diversity in its entirety including but not limited to disabilities (visible and invisible), low socioeconomic backgrounds, body diversity, transgender gender diverse identifying artists.

 

We acknowledge that these changes won’t happen overnight but the more we keep striving to achieve them, the sooner we will see change.
